6.5 yrs after bifurcation, J&K removed from Aadhaar records of Ladakh residents

Residents of Ladakh can now see their identity reflected in Aadhaar records with 'Ladakh' replacing 'Jammu & Kashmir' in the 'State' field. The UT administration, in coordination with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), devised a mechanism to update the 'State' field centrally using PIN codes specific to Ladakh. This has resolved the issue of incorrect representation in Aadhaar records, causing inconvenience to the people of Ladakh while availing various services.
