In Punjab, open wounds from hit jobs on Ambedkar statues

A statue of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar in a glass enclosure is mounted on a yellow structure in Nurpur Jattan village, Punjab's Hoshiarpur district. The statue was desecrated, prompting outrage among villagers and Dalit groups. It was repaired within a few days and now two police officers stand guard round the clock to prevent a repeat of the incident, which Dalits saw as an act of provocation to fracture Punjab's social fabric.
