AIADMK splitting? Anti-EPS faction backs Vijay, flexes MLA 'majority'

AIADMK is facing an internal crisis after the party's poor performance in the assembly election. A faction led by senior leaders CV Shanmugam and SP Velumani has publicly extended support to the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government led by actor-turned-politician Vijay. They claim that a majority of the party's MLAs back them, not party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami, who retains the support of around 20-22 legislators. The faction asserts that most MLAs favour extending support to the Vijay-led government in the interest of political stability.
