Al-Qaeda-linked fighters storm Mali prison, block food supplies to Bamako

A group linked to al-Qaeda has stormed a main prison in Mali, housing fighters from the Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin group, and set fire to trucks carrying food supplies. The Kenieroba Central Prison, located about 60km southwest of Bamako, houses 2,500 prisoners, including 72 considered "high value" by the Malian state. Malian armed forces are repelling the attack, which comes after a series of attacks by the group's fighters and Tuareg separatists.
