Burkina Faso authorities accused of secretly detaining prominent journalist

Burkina Faso's military authorities are accused of arbitrarily detaining and mistreating a prominent investigative journalist. Reporters Without Borders claims the journalist was abducted from his home by armed men and held captive in a villa in Ouagadougou, where detainees faced threats of execution, violence, and food deprivation. The watchdog alleges the journalist was targeted since 2022 for accusing a senior army officer of embezzlement. The authorities initially said the journalist was conscripted into the military, but Reporters Without Borders calls this a smokescreen to conceal his captivity.
