Centre tests nationwide emergency alert system

The Centre has launched a nationwide Cell Broadcast System (CBS), a telecom-based alert mechanism that sends emergency warnings directly to mobile phones in specific areas. The system allows authorities to push alerts to all phones within a defined location at the same time, delivering messages almost instantly even during network congestion. It does not require a phone database or data system and is operator-agnostic, allowing all telecom service providers to connect to this network.
