EC orders strict EVM checks, warns of action and repoll over tampering in Bengal

The Election Commission has instructed presiding officers to check that all candidate buttons on electronic voting machines are clearly visible and not covered with tape, glue, or any other material that can compromise vote secrecy. Cases of tampered buttons may fall under electoral offence, prompting criminal action or a repoll. Presiding officers will inform sector or returning officers if tampering is noticed.
