Editorial: Parsis — a community in crisis

The Parsi community in India is facing a demographic and socio-economic crisis due to a rapidly declining population. The community's contribution to India's industrial, economic, and philanthropic development has been immense, but their population has been shrinking over the decades. The rate of decline is alarming, with a 18% drop per decade, and the community's average Total Fertility Rate is far below the replacement level. This has created a population pyramid with a disproportionate number of elderly individuals dependent on support, and a shortage of youth in their reproductive years.
