Farmer attempts self-immolation over procurement delay in Jangaon

A farmer allegedly attempted self-immolation at a paddy procurement centre in Jangaon district over delays in procurement of his paddy stocks. Locals and fellow farmers intervened in time and prevented the incident. The farmer was distressed over the delay, which had been ongoing for nearly a month, and was allegedly being unfairly treated in the token-based procurement system. He poured diesel on himself after an argument with officials, but was stopped by others at the centre.
