He claims to have alerted the Boat Club control room as the situation worsened and turned the boat around immediately after strong winds began to blow. However, survivors alleged that their request to turn around was ignored and the pilot and crew abandoned the ship before it capsized. The helmsman says he was the last one to jump from the boat and was rescued by locals after an hour.
