Lebanon cannot be bombed into sovereignty

Lebanese leaders are in Washington for direct negotiations with Israel, aiming to restore sovereignty under a fragile ceasefire deal. The deal requires Lebanon to demonstrate its sovereignty, while Israel retains the right to take self-defence measures and deploy forces on Lebanese soil. Hezbollah's armament is expected to be addressed, but Israel's military freedom remains open-ended, with no clear pathway to deterrence
