Mali rattled by ongoing armed attacks: What to know

Mali's security situation has deteriorated with coordinated attacks by unidentified armed groups. Armed groups have targeted military sites across the country, including the capital Bamako, and its surrounding areas. The Defence Minister Sadio Camara has been killed amid these attacks. Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin, an Al-Qaeda-linked group, has claimed responsibility for the attacks, along with Tuareg rebels. The military has deployed soldiers to block roads and repelled the assault, killing several hundred assailants.
