NHRC issues notices over costly textbooks in private schools

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Education Ministry, CBSE, and state governments over allegations that private schools are prescribing costly textbooks from private publishers. The NHRC has sought reports and directed audits, citing possible violations of RTE Act provisions and education policies. It has also asked state governments to examine the concerns raised and submit an Action Taken Report.
