Post-SIR electorate drop drives turnout surge; votes remain steady compared to 2021 election

Voter turnout in Chennai district is significantly higher than in 2021 Assembly polls, standing at 83.41% as of polling day. This is due to a reduction in the electorate from 40.57 lakh in 2021 to 28.93 lakh in 2026. The number of electors who turned up in both elections remains close to 24 lakh.
