Powerful states are trying to sabotage decarbonisation of shipping

Pacific Island states are opposed to weakening a key climate shipping agreement. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has agreed on a policy mechanism to cut shipping emissions, the Net-Zero Framework (NZF), but a decision on its formal adoption has been postponed. Pacific Island states will push for the adoption of the NZF this year, and if it is watered down, they will revert to their original demand for a universal levy on emissions.
