Scientists Uncover a Baffling New Pit Viper in Myanmar

Scientists have discovered a new species of pit viper in Myanmar that defies easy classification. The newly identified Ayeyarwady pit viper exhibits physical variations that make it resemble both the redtail pit viper and the mangrove pit viper. This discovery highlights the complexity of species classification in nature, as seen in other animals like the leaf-litter frogs in the Amazon rainforest. The Ayeyarwady pit viper's physical characteristics are not consistent with any single known species, leading researchers to believe it may have exchanged genes with both species in the past.
