Tamil Nadu election 2026: Powerloom weavers caught in a web of woes in Aruppukottai constituency

Weaving is a major organised occupation in Aruppukottai Assembly constituency, ranking second only to agriculture. It has been predominantly a household occupation with many houses having an average of two powerlooms that produce cotton and polycotton saris. The job generation by spinning mills in the region has significantly declined in recent years.
