‘This is a test message’: India launches new emergency messaging system for citizens

India has launched its Cell Broadcast messaging system using indigenous technology for instant disaster alerting service. The system is designed to send emergency alerts to citizens during crises or emergency situations such as natural disasters and wars. The Centre has tested the system by sending a notification with a siren alert to almost all citizens. The system is active across all 36 states and Union Territories, sending disaster and emergency alerts through geo-targeted notifications.
