'This may be the last time you hear my voice': Political executions surge in Iran since start of war

Mehrab Abdollahzadeh, a death row inmate in western Iran, has been executed. He was arrested in 2022 during nationwide protests following the death of a young woman in police custody. Abdollahzadeh claims he was forced to make false confessions through torture and threats. His execution is part of a surge in executions of people on political and security charges in Iran, with the UN verifying at least 32 political prisoner executions since the US and Israel attacked Iran.
