California ex-mayor admits acting as agent of China, US authorities say

Eileen Wang, the former mayor of Arcadia, has admitted to acting as an illegal agent of China. She agreed to plead guilty to one count of acting as an illegal agent of a foreign government from late 2020 until 2022. Wang operated a website called the US News Center, which published pro-Beijing propaganda, and republished an essay denying allegations of genocide against ethnic-minority Uighurs in China's Xinjiang region. She faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and has resigned as mayor.
