French court convicts VW for 'consumer harm' in 'Dieselgate' scandal

A French court has ordered Volkswagen to pay 100,000 euros for "consumer harm" over the Dieselgate emissions fraud. The German automaker admitted to selling vehicles equipped with devices designed to cheat environmental regulations by lowering emissions during testing. The court found Volkswagen failed in its obligation of conformity by selling nearly 950,000 vehicles with these devices in France between 2007 and 2015. This ruling is seen as an encouraging step for a class-action lawsuit to be heard next year.
