Germany expands customs service to deal with new challenges

Germany's customs agency is set to receive better resources to deal with new challenges including a surge in parcels. The agency currently employs around 49,000 people nationwide and is facing a growing flood of packages driven by international online trade, particularly from China. To address this issue, the duty-free limit for packages valued under €150 is being abolished, and an additional fee is to be introduced at the EU level.
