Germany troop cuts send wrong signal to Russia, say two top US Republicans

US Republican lawmakers Roger Wicker and Mike Rogers have criticised a Pentagon decision to cut 5,000 US troops from Germany, saying it risks undermining deterrence and sends the wrong signal to Russia. They suggest moving these troops further east instead of withdrawing them. The Pentagon spokesperson says the move followed a thorough review and recognised "theater requirements and conditions on the ground". The US has more than 36,000 active duty troops in Germany.
