Mob attacks Assam forest range office over alleged land encroachment, several injured

A mob attacked the Assam Forest Department's Runikhata Forest Range office in Chirang district, vandalising the office and residential quarters. The mob, protesting the detention of locals who allegedly encroached upon forest land, torched more than half-a-dozen government vehicles on the premises and took away some weapons. The incident has fuelled tension along the India-Bhutan border.
