Nepal celebrates return of stolen 13th-century Buddha statue from New York

A centuries-old Buddha statue, dating back to the 13th century, has been reinstalled in its original location at a temple in Kathmandu. The statue, which was stolen in the 1980s and later found at Tibet House US in New York, was returned to its stone plinth in a ceremony attended by a visiting United States envoy. A replica that locals had been worshipping instead was moved to another area of the temple, coinciding with the festival of Buddha Jayanti.
