Benin holds presidential election amid deteriorating security situation

Polls are open in Benin's presidential election, with Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni expected to win due to the absence of a major challenger. Over 7.9 million people are registered to vote, including those in the diaspora. The new president will face challenges such as a huge gap between the poor and well-off, a poverty rate estimated at over 30 percent, and improving security to stabilise the country.
